MSc in Transactional Analysis Counselling
MSc in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy with CTA

The Master of Science Degrees in Transactional Analysis Counselling and Psychotherapy are validated by Queen Margaret University. The programme has been run by CPTI since 2007. The MSc in TA Psychotherapy meets the professional requirements of UKCP Psychotherapy Registration.

The MSc in TA Counselling will be undertaken by students who complete the COSCA Counselling Diploma and decide to extend their training to obtain the academic qualification.
MSc in TA Psychotherapy with CTA will be undertaken by students who want to add an academic qualification to their professional one.

The taught content of the MSc in TA Counselling and the MSc in TA Psychotherapy courses is identical: the difference between the two courses lies in the professional accreditation required alongside the academic qualification. In consequence the MSc in TA Psychotherapy typically takes significantly longer to achieve than the MSc in TA Counselling.

Entry to the MSc is made at the end of the second year training (Advanced Year 1) and comprises two years of taught modules. Following the 2 years of the MSc programme, students submit a 15,000 word master’s project for MSc in TA Counselling; or a 16,800 master’s project based on CTA case study for the MSc in TA Psychotherapy. The Extended Training Group (ETG) has been established to support students in preparing the Master’s Project.

The first year of the MSc is also the final year for the COSCA Diploma and many students will obtain the diploma at this point. The Diploma will enable them, subject to compliance with COSCA practice conditions, to obtain COSCA Individual Counsellor Accreditation (See COSCA website for information and procedures for accreditation). The MSc adds further academic standing and offers significant benefits for advancement and promotion in many fields.
